Player to Watch – LF Carlos Gonzalez: Gonzalez is one of the best pure hitters in all of baseball, and one of the best players in the game that doesn’t get super star recognition. He’s hitting a team-high 3.30 with 17 homers and 58 RBIs. He can do it all at the plate as well as on the bases and in the field.

Series Overview: This is the perfect series for the Phillies to get off on the right foot to start the second half. They play a team in worse shape with no hope to improve in Colorado.

It has to start this weekend with the Phillies three best active pitchers taking on a very weak unit in Colorado. Despite hitting a rough patch, all three of the Phils’ starters have sub-4.00 ERA’s with their leader returning next week.

Along with Gonzalez, young hitter Tyler Colvin has been a bright spot for the Rockies. Colvin is hitting .305 with 13 homers and 40 RBIs, third on the team in the latter two categories. Michael Cuddyer and Dexter Fowler are other hitters to keep an eye on.

The Phillies will have no excuse for the second half of the season now, other than a poor bullpen.

With Ryan Howard and Chase Utley back as well as Roy Halladay set to be back in a week, the Phillies are the same team they were last year that won 102 games. There shouldn’t be a doubt that they can have a good second half and steal a Wild Card spot.
