PHILADELPHIA — It seems as though a lead is never safe with this year’s Phillies team.
After trailing 1-0 early in the game, the Phillies took a 3-1 lead in the second inning only to see it slip away. The Braves scored all six runs off Joe Blanton as they defeated the Phillies 6-3 on Saturday evening.
The Phillies had RBIs from Juan Pierre, Joe Blanton, and Jimmy Rollins to take their lead.
But the Braves battled back over the next two innings.
Brian McCann continued his torture of Phillies pitching as he singled in a run to tie the game at 3. McCann has six RBIs through two games this series.
In the fourth inning, Andrelton Simmons gave the Braves the lead on a sacrifice fly that scored Freddie Freeman.
They added two insurance runs in the seventh inning to cement the victory.
The Phillies were able to get to Tommy Hanson early but couldn’t do much damage in the later innings. Hunter Pence was the only Phillie that had multiple hits.
Blanton struggled with his command as he surrendered his usual home run ball. He did manage to go seven innings.
The Phillies will look to salvage a game from the series as Vance Worley takes the hill on Sunday afternoon.
2B: Ruiz (21), Pierre (6).
