Giants Interested in Phillies OF Hunter Pence

According to CBS’s Jon Heyman, the San Francisco Giants have a deal in place for Phillies outfielder Hunter Pence.

Heyman writes:

Phillies GM Ruben Amaro acknowledged in a recent interview that sometimes plans change.

The Giants weren’t believed to have much money to spend. But it appears they are considering spending some here.

The Phillies have led Pence to believe he won’t be traded, but it appears they are at least willing to listen. Pence is batting .268 with 17 home runs and 59 RBI this year and will make $13million to $15 million in arbitration next year.

Knobler: Dodgers Eyeing Phillies Jimmy Rollins

As if today hasn’t already been filled with a lot of news regarding the trade deadline, Danny Knobler of CBS Sports reports that the Los Angeles Dodgers are targeting Phillies short stop Jimmy Rollins for offensive help.

The Dodgers are without their own short stop Dee Gordon and would look to fill a hole. They are also reportedly interested in other Phillies Cole Hamels and Shane Victorino, but their lack of good prospects leaves Hamels a long shot.

If the Dodgers can’t pry Rollins from a struggling Phillies team, Victorino would be their go-to guy.

Los Angeles sees the Phillies as sellers at the deadline. And Rollins’ name fits because Dodgers first base coach Davey Lopes is a good friend of Rollins dating back to when he coached with the Phillies.

“The key to that [Phillies] ballclub has always been Rollins, as far as I’m concerned,” Lopes¬†told [Knobler] last month in Philadelphia.¬†“When Jimmy rolls, they roll.”

Morosi: Shane Victorino Will Likely Be Traded

With talks of Cole Hamels being traded taking the forefront of discussion this month, the likelihood that another Phillie gets shopped is starting to formulate.

According to a report by FOX’s Jon Morosi, that Phillie is Shane Victorino. This isn’t really news, especially with Victorino’s contract situation and his performance this year.

But Morosi feels that a change of scenery would be good for the 31-year-old centerfielder, who is hitting a career-worst .244.

Wright could be Phillies 3B “very very soon”

The attempt the land Aramis Ramirez was a bust, leaving the Phillies to settle with Placido Polanco at third base.

But in a new twist of developments, their hunt for a new third baseman may have warmed back up.

According to a very reliable source close to The Philly Phans’ Kevin Kee, “David Wright may be the 3rd baseman very very shortly.”

Kee’s source has been good this year, including the Brian Schneider signing, update on Cole Hamels and the Jimmy Rollins deal.

This story is still developing so keep an eye on @ThePhillyPhans and this site.

Stark: Phils eyeing Fish reliever

Nunez (Brian Kersey)

Joining a handful of San Diego relievers that include Heath Bell on the list of relied help the Phils are seeking is Marlins closer Leo Nunez.

Reported by ESPN’s Jayson Stark – our Philly-lovin’ writer for the “world wide leader in sports” – the Phillies have talked to Marlins brass about acquiring the right-hander. Florida is said to be interested in some of the Phillies young arms, which I may not be a fan of seeing as I’m practically in love with Antonio Bastardo and Michael Stutes.

From MLB Trade Rumors:

The Phillies have talked to the Marlins about closer Leo Nunez, tweets ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick. The Marlins seek young pitching in return, Crasnick adds…Nunez fits with the Phillies’ goal of acquiring players they can control beyond this year, though his salary will get a healthy bump from this year’s $3.65MM.

Nunez has a 3.30 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 43 2/3 innings this season and has converted 27-of-30 save opportunities. Those type of numbers don’t blow me away as you can see Nunez has the ability to blow saves in the worst way as well put a runner on every time. Hopefully, Florida isn’t asking for one of our two big Pigs or I’d say let this deal go.
