HOUSTON — The Phillies ran into a little bit of a problem in Houston.
Fortunately for them, a split between the Dodgers and Cardinals happened in their four-game series and the Phillies only dropped to four games back of St. Louis and three back of Los Angeles despite losing three games to Houston.
Yesterday, it was a poor effort by Antonio Bastardo and Phillippe Aumont led to a four-run 7th inning that enabled the Astros to beat Philadelphia, 7-6.
While holding a 4-3 lead in the 7th, Bastardo put a couple runners on and was pulled in favor of Aumont. Aumont then proceeded to walk Brandon Laird to load the bases.
Justin Maxwell followed up with a two-run double to give Houston a 5-4 lead. Aumont then coughed up a two-run single to Matt Dominguez to make it a 7-4 game.
Philadelphia’s attempt at a comeback failed despite putting two runs up in the 8th inning thanks to a Domonic Brown two-run double.
2B: Rollins (33), Pierre (10), Howard (11), Martinez (3), Brown (9).
