HOUSTON — The Phillies are playing inconsistent ball at the worst possible time.
A dat after lighting up the Astros, the bats went quiet. Houston went on to score five runs, beating Philadelphia 5-0 Saturday night.
The Phillies had trouble stranding runners in scoring position again, much like they did Thursday. They went 0-for-9 with runners in scoring position and left 11 on base while managing only seven hits.
Kyle Kendrick’s string of quality starts snapped with his below average performance. He lasted five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits on seven hits while striking out four.
On the other side, Dallas Keuchel left the Phillies offense searching for answers. He pitched into the 6th inning, allowing five hits and four walks without recording a strikeout.
The rest of Houston’s bullpen finished up the job, and it dropped the Phillies to 73-73 and 3.5 games behind St. Louis with 16 games to play.
