Kendrick Pitching to Impress

Kyle Kendrick is a little machine and the Phillies are starting see this. Kendrick pitched four shut out innings where he allowed two hits in the Phillies 4-3 loss to the O’s. Sergio Escalona looked unimpressive again as he gave up three runs in the fifth inning. Andrew Carpenter continued his case for making the bull pen … Continue reading Kendrick Pitching to Impress

As some of you saw last week, Sports Illustrated, a once great magazine whose letting-go of Rick Reilly still puzzles me, layed another egg. In Tim Marchman’s rating, they said Ruben Amaro, Jr. was the 19th best GM in all of major league baseball. 19th? NINETEENTH? You have got to be kidding me! Before I completely rip … Continue reading 19th?

Phillies Sign OF Guzman

The Phillies signed veteran OF Freddy Guzman to a minor league contract. His contract doesn’t include an invitation to Spring Training though so he is guarenteed to start in the minors. Guzman spent the 2009 season with the Triple-A affiliates of the Orioles, Mariners, Red Sox and Yankees. He did get 10 games of action with … Continue reading Phillies Sign OF Guzman

Phillies sign Baez

Danys Baez is a physical away from being a Phillie, according to Todd Zolecki. And according to Dave Murphy, it’s a two-year, $5.25 million deal. Like I said in the other post, this is a good move for the Phillies, who were in need of a veteran reliever. He was 4-6 last year with … Continue reading Phillies sign Baez

Phils Swept; Go 1-8 on Home Stand

On th 45th anniversary of Jim Bunning’s perfect game, you would expect a special game from Cole Hamels. Well he did indeed deliver, going eight innings, striking out 10 and surrendering two runs on seven hits. Surely one of the best offenses can give Hamels the support. Wrong. After Greg Dobbs solo home run in … Continue reading Phils Swept; Go 1-8 on Home Stand

No Updates Today

Another Saturday where I’ll be gone all day and what else is new… it’s raining here in Atlantic City (or the entire east coast so the Phillies game has a shot at being in danger). I’ll be working from 12-5 then hitting up the Jimmy Buffett concert in Camden (at least my seats are in … Continue reading No Updates Today

Phils Swept By Jays

This is the same team that took a series versus the Yankees, Mets, and Dodgers in their parks. Surely they could come home and take a team that hasn’t beaten a National League foe yet all season. Coming into this series with a 13-16 record at home, should we really have been surprised the Phillies … Continue reading Phils Swept By Jays

Mayberry Jr. Called Up

John Mayberry Jr. was brought up to the Phillies last night from AAA Lehigh Valley. They will send Sergio Escalona back down to AAA. Mayberry was hitting .277 with 8 HR and 25 RBI for the Iron Pigs this season. This is great news. He should be starting today and tomorrow. As a right handed … Continue reading Mayberry Jr. Called Up

FIM #10: Ryan Howard Wins ROY/MVP

The Phillies have not seen hitters like Mike Schmidt or Pete Rose since 1990 and 1983 respectively. They wait no more as we have another pair of amazing hitters that my generation’s children wish they would have seen in their prime: Chase Utley and Ryan Howard. Moment #10 will be dedicated to Ryan Howard and … Continue reading FIM #10: Ryan Howard Wins ROY/MVP
