On November 17, the Reading Phillies will rebrand their Minor League franchise.
The Phillies Double-A squad, the R-Phils, will announce on November 17 the name, logo and uniforms for their squad. They have been the Phillies for 46 years, serving as an affiliate to the Phillies.
“Since 1967, the Reading Phillies have been proud affiliates of the Philadelphia Phillies,” said Reading General Manager Scott Hunsicker. “Our relationship is the longest affiliation in the minor leagues and there has never been a better time to be a Phillies affiliate.. Considering the heritage and fun nature of Baseballtown, our entire front office is extremely anxious to unveil and share our new name with everyone on November 17th.”
I vote they call themselves the Reading Rufs, seeing as Darin Ruf single handedly destroyed Double-A (and some Major League) pitching in 2012.
UPDATE — Crossing Broad ran a very interesting story, saying the Reading Phillies have registered three domain names with the word “Fightins” in them.
This detective work, originally done by Chris Creamer of SportsLogos.net – this is the site where I get my logos from for my Series Preview posts – shows that the R-Phils could be changing their name to the Reading Fightins.
Read more of Kyle Scott’s post on CB, and you decide whether Fightins is a deserving name for the Phillies’ Double-A squad.
