
Not even 15 minutes after the Phillies’ season ended they made a cut in the coaching staff.
First base coach Sam Perlozzo will not return for the 2013 season according to Phillies general manager Ruben Amaro.
Perlozzo was hired as the third base coach in 2009. In 2011, he moved to first base when the Phillies hired Juan Samuel to coach third.
Manager Charlie Manuel commented:
“It’s definitely not what he did. I look at him as a great teacher and tremendous coach. When you want to do some things, people on your staff, they’re the ones who have to be let go or moved. That’s the position it’s in. It’s something the organization felt we’re going to go that way.”
