Phillies Test Cloyd; Will Pitch Him On Short Rest

PHILADELPHIA — Due to the Phillies double-header this past Sunday, the Phillies will be forced to throw a starter out on short rest.

Fortunately for Philadelphia, Tyler Cloyd didn’t have an extended outing on Sunday and he will be the pitcher that pitches on short rest Thursday against the Astros.

Cloyd lasted only four innings, throwing 76 pitches in the Phillies 7-4 win over the Rockies, and he will go out and face the Astros on only three days of rest.

“With my pitch count last night, it shouldn’t be too bad,” Cloyd said. “We’ll dial down the lifting and the bullpen [before Thursday]. We’ll just work on little things and get ready for Thursday.”

Cloyd is 1-1 with a 4.24 ERA in 17 innings this season after making three starts.
