CINCINNATI — Getting to Reds starting pitcher Mike Leake early and often was the goal for Philadelphia.
They did so in the 2nd inning. After a Domonic Brown RBI single, Erik Kratz hit a three-run homer that blew the game open 4-0.
An inning later, Chase Utley hit a two-run homer off Leake to give the Phillies and Roy Halladay a 6-0 lead. It chased Leake from the game in the 3rd inning.
Halladay cruised through 7 1/3 innings, allowing a run on eight hits and a walk while striking out five. He earned his ninth win of the season and lowed his ERA to 3.87.
