Hang ‘Em and Bang ‘Em: Kendrick Surrender’s Huge Homer to Bruce in 6th

Reds 2, Phillies 1
WP – Mat Latos (12-4, 3.69)
LP – Kyle Kendrick (8-10, 3.96)
SV – Aroldis Chapman (35)

CINCINNATI — All Kyle Kendrick had to do was keep his pitches down against Jay Bruce.

But one pitch stayed up and Bruce sent it over the right field wall, giving Cincinnati a 2-1 lead in the 6th and the eventual win over the Phillies. The homer broke up a 1-0 lead that was being preserved by Kendrick in an otherwise great start.

The only run Philadelphia managed to score came in the 4th inning. Domonic Brown drew a bases-loaded walk that enabled Chase Utley to score.

The Phillies were then robbed of a second run when Nate Schierholtz hit a liner into center field. Drew Stubbs clearly trapped the ball but it was ruled a catch. He then threw it to second for the third out.

Two different umpires made different calls and it cost the Phillies an important run.

Jimmy Rollins earned his 200oth hit in the 5th inning with a double down the right field line.

2B: Utley (11), Rollins (32).
