Mets 9 , Phillies 5 (10 innings)
WP – Bobby Parnell (4-3, 3.02)
LP – BJ Rosenberg (0-2, 12.66)
PHILADELPHIA — Extra innings have not been kind to BJ Rosenberg.
The Phillies reliever gave up four runs in the 10th inning including a two-run home run by catcher Kelly Shoppach to give the Mets a 9-5 win.
Shoppach also hit the RBI double off Antonio Bastardo that tied the game at 5 in the 9th inning.
After getting solid production from Raul Valdes and Josh Lindblom, the Phillies bullpen imploded.
Bastardo and Rosenberg struggled mightily in the late innings.
At one point, the Phillies led the game 4-1.
Despite falling behind 1-0 in the 1st inning, the Phillies bounced back in the bottom half of the stanza. Chris Young had a rocky inning in which he walked Jimmy Rollins and Utley and hit Kevin Frandsen with a pitch.
Then on a 1-2 count to Ryan Howard, Howard blasted a Young offering into the right centerfield seats to give the Phillies a 4-1 lead.
However in the middle innings, the Mets answered the rally.
Rightfielder Mike Baxter connected on a two-run home run off starter Vance Worley to make it a one-run game in the 4th inning. In the very next inning, David Wright lifted a sacrifice fly to deep center field to plate Ruben Tejada which tied the game at 4.
HR: Howard (9), Utley (9).
