FRANDSEN OPENING EYES — Despite Placido Polanco being healthy, Kevin Frandsen is still getting the lion’s share of the starts at third base.
Frandsen will get the call at third base once again on Tuesday night against the New York Mets. It is his ninth start in the past 11 games.
Frandsen has given Charlie Manuel no reason to sit him on the bench. The Phillies third baseman has been on fire at the plate lately. He is hitting .417 with five RBIs in his last 10 games.
Since being called up from Lehigh Valley, Frandsen has done everything right. While most of the praise has been for his bat, his defense has been surprisingly strong. He’s made several diving stops to help out the Phillies pitchers.
Frandsen is definitely making a strong case to be on the roster in 2013. Obviously the Phillies will be looking to upgrade at the hot corner with Polanco being a free agent after this season. However Frandsen could be a solid bench option.
BROWN BACK IN LINEUP — After sitting out Sunday’s game against the Washington Nationals, outfielder Domonic Brown is back in the lineup and batting sixth for the Phillies tonight.
Brown has been very strong at the plate for the Phillies since being called up last month. He is hitting .289 with a home run and 7 RBIs in his last 10 games. Brown has gotten at least one hit in 7 of those 10 contests. He is hitting .270 over the season
One of the most noticeable improvements in Brown’s game is his fielding.
Brown has six outfield assists and hasn’t committed an error in 23 games with the Phillies.
It’s good for Brown to get as much experience as he possibly can to prepare for next season as a possible everyday player.
