PHILADELPHIA — The Phillies are in first place in the NL East.

A Ryan Howard RBI single drove in the winning run in the bottom of the 9th, giving the Phillies a comeback 5-4 walk-off win.

Juan Pierre led off the 9th inning with a single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Laynce Nix pinch-hit, dropping a single in front of right fielder Justin Upton to put runners on the corners.

After walking Chase Utley to load the bases, Howard ripped a line drive into right to win the game.

Back-to-back home runs in the 2nd inning put Cliff Lee in an early 3-0 hole.

After Justin Upton led off the 2nd with a single, Nick Johnson hit a two-run homer to give the Diamondbacks a 2-0 lead. Stephen Drew followed Johnson up with a solo home run as well, giving Arizona a 3-0 lead.

The Phils answered right back in the bottom half. John Mayberry scored on a wild pitch and Erik Kratz drove home Domonic Brown on an RBI double to make it 3-2.

Chase Utley’s solo homer in the 5th tied the game up in the bottom of the 5th. But Paul Goldschmidt’s homer to lead off the 6th broke the tie, giving Arizona a 4-3 lead.

The Phils tied it back up in the 8th when Mayberry scored on a single by Brown. Mayberry, who was running to third, hesitated and bolted towards the plate when pitcher David Hernandez threw the ball away.

2B: Brown (1), Kratz (4). HR: Utley (7).
