Cliff Lee’s winless streak seems destined to never end.
Lee got behind the eight-ball after a horrific three-run second inning and never recovered as the Phillies lost their second game of the day to the Tampa Bay Rays 7-3.
The Rays received big RBI hits from Sean Rodriguez and Brooks Conrad during their second inning surge. They able to score five runs on six hits off Lee on their way to victory.
The Phillies did have some offense show up.
Placido Polanco was 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI doubles that both plated Hunter Pence. Pence walked on both occasions to set up the runs as the Phillies cut he deficit to 3-2.
But Conrad made his presence felt once again as he laced a two-run double to make it 5-3. It was his 5th RBI in the series.
The Phillies never could seem to come back after that and fell at home.
Hopefully the possible return of Chase Utley on Wednesday will ignite the team.
