Ruiz Diagnosed With Oblique Strain

Carlos Ruiz will miss the next couple of games with what looks to be a strained left oblique.

To give the Phillies some insurance at catcher they called up Erik Kratz from AAA and sent back down B.J. Rosenberg.

Matt Gelb added about the severity of the injury: “They say a player knows his body best. Ruiz missed 21 days in 2009 with oblique strain. Says this isn’t similar. Spraying line drives in BP.”

According to Gelb, Ruiz is taking some batting practice today, but there has also been some discrepancy between the front office and coaching staff as far as handling injuries.

Whatever the case, it’s a just another blow the Phillies have to absorb in a nightmarish first half.
