TORONTO –With Blue Jays starter Drew Hutchison leaving the game in the first inning due to injury, the Phillies looked poised to take control of the game.
Unfortunately that never happened. The lineup could only muster five hits off the Jays bullpen as the Phillies fell 3-0 on the road.
Vance Worley was solid once again as he tossed six innings. He gave up three runs on five hits with five strikeouts. But he never got the run support that he needed.
The Blue Jays got their scoring started in the third inning as Rajai Davis laced a two-out double off the wall. Brett Lawrie followed with a double off the right-field wall to put the Jays up 1-0.
They picked up where they left off in the 4th as Edwin Encarnacion had an RBI groundout that plated Jose Bautista. Shortstop Yunel Escobar also had an RBI groundout in the inning.
Carlos Ruiz, Hunter Pence, Juan Pierre, Mike Fontenot, and Jimmy Rollins each had a hit for the Phillies in a losing effort.
NOTE — Carlos Ruiz left the game with a left oblique strain. He was replaced by Brian Schneider.
2B: Pence (10), Rollins (13).
