NEW YORK — Joe Blanton has found himself in a rough patch that has the Phillies even more worried about their starting rotation.
While Roy Halladay and Vance Worley sit on the DL, the Phillies need Blanton to step up and he hasn’t lately. Blanton got roughed up again, this time to the Mets, in a 6-3 loss Tuesday night.
Blanton gave up all six of the Mets runs on nine hits and two walks through five innings. He also allowed two homers, one of them to the opposing starting pitcher Jeremy Hefner.
The Phils scored right away in the 1st when Jimmy Rollins led off the game with a double, advanced to third on Juan Pierre sacrifice and scored on a wild pitch.
The Mets took a 2-1 lead right away in the bottom half with a pair of RBI singles by David Wright and Ike Davis. Brian Schneider’s second home run of the season in the top of the 2nd, an upper deck blast, tied the game back up.
But the Mets took the lead for good on Mike Baxter’s one-out RBI double, making it 3-2 in the bottom of the 2nd.
2B: Rollins (8), Pence (9). HR: Schneider (2)
