Injury Updates: Herndon, Thome, Utley

The Phillies had recently put David Herndon on the DL yesterday. Today he was diagnosed with a flexor pronator strain in his right elbow.

Herndon will be shelved for three weeks. Surgery isn’t in his immediate future but that could change if his elbow doesn’t get any better in that time.

He is currently on the 15-day DL.

THOME IN CLEARWATER — The Phillies had placed Jim Thome on the DL this morning when they called up catcher Erik Kratz last night.

Thome immediately went to Clearwater where he will begin to rehab his lower back strain suffered on Saturday.

Charlie Manuel said the warm weather in Clearwater would be good for Thome in rehabbing his back as well as getting every day at bats to hopefully solve his early-season struggles.

Thome is 2-for-18 with 10 strike outs.

UTLEY UPDATE — It’s a Chase Utley update courtesy of Ryan Lawrence (@ryanlawrence21) on Twitter.

No definitive time Utley will join Phils (which Amaro said would happen last week). He could join team in DC, get examined by team docs… That’s where Utley situation is now. Can’t forecast when he’ll go to Clearwater until he joins team, gets examined by medical staff.
