Charlie Manuel has obviously got to be frustrated with his offense’s performance.
It isn’t a worried expression from Manuel or his team said Jimmy Rollins but pure frustration. The Phillies dropped their Sunday afternoon game to the Padres, 6-1, which was the 10th time in their first 16 games they failed to score more than two runs.
This is definitely something new to Manuel, who hasn’t seen his team play this bad in a really long time.
“It’s been a while since we’ve played this bad,” Manuel told reporters.
Some other quotes from Manuel via the ever so busy Matt Gelb from the Inquirer.
“This is a test. We have to stay with it and come and get them. It’s a test for the manager, the coaching staff and the players. It’s a test for everybody. I see guys I think are trying too hard. They just need to relax and play like we can. It gets back to our philosophy. We need to be tension-free, relaxed and play the game because we want to — not because we have to. Definitely don’t try to do too much. If you’re pressing, just relax. Do the best you possibly can.”
Manuel did not address his team yet, but he may soon if the frustrations continue.
“Right now, I looked at it, and I wanted to think about it. I’m sure they want to think about it too. We have guys there who definitely want to play hard. Maybe we just need to get back to square one and relax and totally enjoy playing like we can.”
