Earlier this morning, several reports suggested that the Phillies had contacted the Oakland Athletics about left-hander Gio Gonzalez.
Now it appears that the Phillies have been turned down by Oakland according to Ken Rosenthal. He tweeted that they are still persistent about getting a deal done.
Gonzalez would be a solid addition to the rotation as he would seemingly take the spot of Roy Oswalt. It would give the Phillies three lefties in Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, and Gonzalez.
He was 16-12 with a 3.12 ERA in 2010.
Gonzalez was in the Phillies organization at one time and was dealt to the Chicago White Sox along with Gavin Floyd for Freddy Garcia back in 2006.
