It was a rough first inning for Kyle Kendrick. And unfortunately, the rest of his team couldn’t recover from the hole he put them in.
New York hit up arguably the Phillies seventh best starter for six runs in their 7-4 win to prevent a sweep.
The defense didn’t back Kendrick at all in the first inning. Michael Martinez’s botched double play attempt wound up leading to a four-run Mets inning that was capped with a three-run homer by Nick Evans.
The Phillies answered right back with a three-run inning of their own in the 2nd thanks to a couple of RBI singles. But New York tacked on a run in each of the next three innings and the Phils couldn’t overcome it.
Oddly enough for Kendrick, he wound up allowing six runs and only two earned in the loss.
