Gelb: Blanton’s season likely done

Matt Gelb tweeted some not-so-great news for starting pitcher Joe Blanton and his injured right elbow:

Blanton’s season was doomed from the start. He was slated the 5th starter on a team filled with All-Star pitcher’s, most of the time being an afterthought to Phillies fans and baseball minds around the country.

Blanton’s season never took off either. He fought through a couple stints on the DL to manage only six starts, compiling a 2-1 record and 5.50 ERA.

Blanton still has one more year on his contract with the Phillies.

CONTRERAS STILL ON SHELF — Gelb also tweeted the updated status on reliever Jose Contreras. Contreras was supposed to throw today for the first time but the above tweet suggested he did not. It isn’t known if he had a set back or not.
