Phils in the run for Dodgers Kemp

July 19, 3:35 PM – TTB has a source that also said the Phils are in on Kemp but doesn’t think the Dodgers would want to part with a 26-year-old who is one of the top hitters in baseball.

Remember, the Dodgers are having financial problems and Kemp is up for arbitration after this season. They may feel moving him would be the better option seeing as he will demand a lot of money. The Phils will have that money freed up in the off season for Kemp and Cole Hamels.

ORIGINAL — Ruben Amaro is a damn liar! But I’m okay with it.

About a month after Amaro said the Phillies would stay quiet at the deadline, it has been reported they are going to pursue Dodgers All-Star outfielder Matt Kemp.

The reports came from Phillies prospect blog Phuture Phillies, a trusted source especially with Phillies minor league news. They have a source that told them this off the record and they are keeping their word in not revealing their source.

Kemp, hitting .314 with 26 homers and 72 RBIs, would instantly catapult the Phillies into the World Series and put the team with the best record in baseball over the top.

But the main question is, who would you part with or claim “untouchable” in a deal that could land the Phils the big right-handed protection Ryan Howard has sorely needed?

Names to be thrown out there are Advanced A Clearwater outfielder prospect Jonathan Singleton, AA Reading pitcher Jarred Cosart or even Domonic Brown. We’ll know more as more becomes official.
