In an up and down week for Shane Victorino, it ends with bad news.
Recently named to the NL All-Star team, Victorino was placed on the DL with a sprained ligament in his right thumb today. Pete Orr was called up and will take Victorino’s roster spot. Orr will likely be the player sent back down once Vance Worley is reactivated after the break.
The move is retroactive to July 4, meaning Victorino could be reactivated on July 19.
Victorino injured his thumb during last Sunday’s loss in Toronto when he tripped making a play, landing awkwardly on his hand.
Victorino’s bat will be missed in a crucial series against the Braves starting tonight. He is hitting .303 with 14 doubles, nine triples, nine home runs, 34 RBIs, 53 runs scored and 13 stolen bases. Expect a lot of playing time for John Mayberry, Jr.
