I love the two-three hours before a Phillies game because my phone blows up with updates from Matt Gelb and Todd Zolecki’s pregame tweets. Today, they both had some very interesting updates regarding more injuries.
VICTORINO — Shane Victorino left last night’s game in the 8th inning. He was feeling some soreness in his right hamstring. He said today that he will not need to go on the DL and should be ready by the home stand starting Wednesday with Colorado.
CONTRERAS, LIDGE — Jose Contreras was cleared to start his rehab assignment on Wednesday. After throwing a bull pen session today, Contreras was pleased with the results and how he felt. He will go to AAA Lehigh Valley.
In other closer news, Brad Lidge could throw off the mound for the first time this season when the Phillies return on Wednesday.
UTLEY — Chase Utley could finally play a full game today with Clearwater. They play in Bradenten tonight.
OSWALT — Roy Oswalt threw another bull pen session today and is ready to go on Tuesday in St. Louis. His fastball’s velocity was a little down when he made a start on Thursday in Clearwater. Hopefully he’s gotten his strength back.
SCHNEIDER — This is the only real bad news today. Brian Schneider could miss a month with a Grade 2 strain of his hammy. He was hurt rounding third in Wednesday’s game.
LINE UP — Michael Martinez will get the start in center field today in place of the injured Victorino. He will bat second to keep a balance in the line up. John Mayberry is also in the line up, batting seventh and playing right field.
