Update: Brian Schneider has been placed on the 15 day DL. This may be an indication that Carlos Ruiz will be in Philadelphia tomorrow.
Original: Catcher Brian Schneider had to leave last night’s 5-3 win over the Marlins with what the Phillies are calling a strained left hamstring. He will be reevaluated during today’s off day in Atlanta.
“It’s not good,” Schneider said. “We’ll have to see how bad it is.”
Schneider is the second Phillies catcher to get injured, but with Carlos Ruiz expected to catch for Roy Oswalt in a rehab game at single-A Clearwater today, Chooch should return to the Phillies’ lineup by Friday when the Phillies open their series at Atlanta.
With Schneider expected to miss some time, this means Dane Sardinha will most likely stay with the club as the backup catcher.
