The news has already been out there all day but I figured I’d give a brief recap on the return of J.C. Romero.
Romero strained his calf a few weeks ago when fielding a ground ball. He was immediately put on the DL. Today was his first day from being activated and he was immediately brought back to the Phils.
To much of a relief to the fans, the Phillies optioned struggling righty David Herndon to make room for Romero. Where Herndon goes, no one knows nor cares.
Romero was back in action immediately tonight. He pitched in the 7th inning of the Phillies 7-4 win over Washington, replacing starter Vance Worley who was pinch-hit for with the bases loaded the previous inning.
Romero struck out Laynce Nix to start the inning. He then got Jerry Hairston Jr. to pop out on the second pitch. After surrendering a two-out single to Alex Cora, Romero got pinch-hitter Brian Bixler to ground out to first to end the inning.
“I’m glad everything went smooth and I’m back,” said Romero before the game.
