Roy Oswalt was hit behind the right ear by a line drive early today but is okay.
Oswalt left the game in the fourth inning minutes ago after being struck in the back of the head by a line drive hit by Manny Ramirez in the Phillies game against the Rays according to a combination of tweets by Ryan Lawrence, Todd Zoleck, Matt Gelb and other writers.
Oswalt suffered a neck contusion and is currently being X-Rayed to ensure there are no breaks or fractures. He said he is feeling “good” but will talk to the media tomorrow.
As soon as Oswalt was struck, all eight Phillies fielders, Charlie Manuel and the training staff rushed in to check on Oswalt. He got up and walked off the field on his own power to the applause by the fans in attendance in Port Charlotte.
Oswalt pitched three-plus innings and allowed two runs on four hits while striking out three. David Herndon replaced him in the fourth with Ramirez on first.
