TAMPA BAY – Kyle Kendrick is auditioning for a spot in the bullpen and he didn’t look very good today in a 6-2 loss to the Tampa Bay Rays.
Kendrick gave up five runs on five hits with three strikeouts and no walks in four innings of work. He also gave up home three home runs.
The Phillies only managed five hits in a split squad game. Utility man Michael Martinez went two-for-three in the loss.
Jimmy Rollins also mustered a hit in two at-bats for the Phillies.
Ryan Madson pitched two scoreless frames while JC Romero pitched a scoreless inning as well. Aside from Lidge, the bullpen has looked strong this spring.

PITTSBURGH – The Phillies performed much better in their other split squad contest against the Pittsburgh Pirates, notching an 11-4 win.
Vance Worley pitched very well for the Phillies. He gave up one run on two hits with five strikeouts and two walks in 3.1 innings.
John Mayberry Jr. had another huge afternoon at the plate. He went three-for-four with three RBIs bringing his spring average to .353.
Ross Gload and Pete Orr each went three-for-five while Wilson Valdez had two hits in the win.
Scott Mathieson and Mike Zagurski didn’t give up a hit in 3.1 innings of relief. David Herndon gave up three runs in 0.2 innings.
The Phillies face the Minnesota Twins on Sunday at 1:05.
