The Philadelphia Phillies Rowan Intramural softball affiliates, Smack A Pitch debuted last night in the Rowan Men’s Intramural Softball League last night, losing to Rowan Ice Hockey, 8-5.
Pitcher John Russo threw a complete game, allowing eight runs, four earned in the loss. He also went 3-for-3 with a double. First baseman and TTB contributor Matt Shanley had a two-hit game including a triple over the center fielder’s head.
Writers Christian Hetrick and Chris Bengel had a single each.
In the bottom of the final inning with two outs and runners on first and second, lead-off hitter Jimmy Van Dyke, who had two hits in the game including a lead-off triple, flew out deep to center to end the game. If the ball would have dropped, Smack A Pitch could have tied the game.
