Cracking the top 10 to open the list was a very special moment to me this season. On May 4, Carlos Ruiz hit a walk-off home run to beat the St. Louis Cardinals.
Cole Hamels was incredible the whole game, pitching eight spectacular innings before being pulled mid-way through the ninth inning after allowing the game-tying run. Adam Wainwright also pitched a gem for St. Louis that night.
The ninth inning was bizarre. A day after the Taser Bro ran onto the field, some idiot thought it would be a good idea to mimic his attempts, giving a weak effort and was later busted for possession of pot. The on-field distraction happened as Hamels was about to throw the first pitch of the inning, probably distracting the left-hander. The Cards David Freese and Yadier Molina then hit back-to-back doubles to tie the game up, 1-1.
The Phillies got out of the jam and took the game to extra innings. Ruiz led of the bottom of the 10th inning. On the first pitch of the at-bat, he hit a ball that was long enough but went a few feet to the left of the foul poll in left field. Three pitches later, Ruiz sent a shot over the flower beds in left field to win the game for the Phillies, 2-1.
On a side note, the game was also special as it was the first time I covered the Phillies as a part of the media.
