The Phillies were all over the Greatness in Baseball Yearly (GIBBY) Awards yesterday, including their staff ace Roy Halladay.
Doc was nominated in six categories and won two awards in a night where three Phillies took home a total of four awards. Halladay won the GIBBY for Pitcher of the Year and for Post Season Moment of the Year. He was also nominated in the Most Dependable Player of the Year, Performance of the Year, Game of the Year and Postseason Most Valuable Player.
The other two award winners were catcher Carlos Ruiz and starter Roy Oswalt. Chooch took home the X-Factor of the Year award and Oswalt won the Oddity of the Year when he played left field in a 16-inning marathon against his former team, the Houston Astros.
Harold Reynolds, who MC’ed the event, said this about Chooch.
“What he does behind the plate is why he’s such a fan favorite in the City of Brotherly Love,” Amsinger said. “He’s leading a great pitching staff that got even better this offseason. Your X-Factor of the Year is Carlos Ruiz.”
