The starting pitching has kept up its great play as the season winds down. Joe Blanton kept the Mets at bay as the Phillies beat New York, 3-2, Friday night.
With the Braves’ 8-3 loss to Washington, the Phillies’ magic number dropped to two games. A win tomorrow and another Braves loss will win them their fourth straight division.
Blanton went seven innings while allowing two runs on six hits, one walk, and six strike outs. Brad Lidge pitched the ninth to record his fourth save in as many games and 27th of the year.
Shane Victorino led-off the bottom of the first with a solo homer to left. They again scored in the second to make it 2-0 thanks to Victorino again on an RBI double.
After the Mets tied it up in the fourth on a two-run homer by Angel Pagan, Carlos Ruiz hit an RBI single to make it a 3-2 game.
R.A. Dickey was very good for New York, allowing three runs, two earned off eight hits and two walks while striking out four in six innings.
