It’s amazing when Roy Halladay and Cole Hamels don’t get any run support but a pitcher like Kyle Kendrick does. The Phillies will take the support anyway as they used it to beat the Dodgers 8-4 a day after being one-hit.
Ryan Howard hit his first home run of the month, a huge three-run blast in the third inning that helped boost the Phillies. He finished the night 1-for-4 with a homer, three RBIs, and two runs scored.
The other five runs came from the catcher’s position. Brian Schneider ripped a three-run homer in the second inning to give the Phillies a 3-1 lead. Carlos Ruiz then pinch hit for him and hit a two-run single of Jonathan Broxton in the seventh.
The Phillies chased Carlos Monasterios in the third inning. The Dodgers starter allowed five runs in two-plus innings of work. Kendrick left after fine innings of okay work, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk.
