The Phillies announced Tuesday that Chase Utley has been activated off the disabled list. To make room for Utley, Greg Dobbs was designated for assignment. Utley has been out since June 29th when he suffered a torn ligament in his right thumb. Utley made some rehab appearances in Clearwater over the weekend to prepare for his return.
Utley’s return is a huge boost for a lineup that is already missing Ryan Howard. He was hitting .277 with 11 home runs and 37 RBIs before landing on the disabled list. The Phillies have worked with several different lineups with Utley out of the lineup. He provides the Phillies with a true number three hitter and should bring some stability from the lineup. However Utley will bat second tonight against the San Francisco Giants.
