Kendrick Pitches Beautifully In Win

Kyle Kendrick is quietly silencing the doubters of his presence the rotation. The young righty has been pitching very well recently after his exile to Lehigh. He put up another great effort to lead the Phils to a 3-1 win over the Mets at Citi Field.

Kendrick allowed only one run in his 6 2/3 innings pitched. He also gave up six hits and a walk while striking out four. The bull pen helped keep the Mets in check as Brad Lidge earned his 16th save on the season with another flawless ninth inning.

The Phils got its offense going in the third. After Jimmy Rollins singled and stole both second and third, Shane Victorino doubled to drive in Rollins from thrid to give the Phils a 1-0 lead. But Jose Reyes tied the game up in the bottom of the third with a solo homer off the right field foul pole.

But that was all the scoring the Mets were going to get. Placido Polanco drove in Victorino in the fifth to make it a 2-1 game and Jayson Werth scored after his triple in the sixth inning thanks to a single by Carlos Ruiz to make it 3-1.

Kendrick’s last five starts have shown the Phillies that they can rely on him in the final stretch of the season. In his last five starts, he’s 3-1 with a 3.07 ERA, 29 1/3 IP, with 18 strike outs. For a fourth/fifth starter, those are very good numbers.

2B: Victorino 2 (17). 3B: Werth (2).

WP: Kendrick (8-5). LP: Pelfrey (11-7). S: Lidge (16).
