Hot (last 3) – Cole Hamels: 1-0, 0.38 ERA, 22.2 IP, 1 ER, 6 BB, 16 K.
Not (last 7) – Wilson Valdez: .071 (1-for-14), 1 R, 2 RBI, 4 K.
Player to Watch – Mark Reynolds: He’s their horse despite striking out another ridiculous rate. I think the thing to watch with his is how many times he will go down on strikes. His 139 strike outs make Jayson Werth and Ryan Howard look like patient hitters. But Reynolds leads the team with 23 homers and second with 62 RBIs. He’s a free swinger and with the pitchers the Phils have on the mound, it should be fun to feel the breeze he’ll create on the hot days ahead.
Series Overview: The D’Backs lead the season series 2-1… The Phillies are riding a five-game winning streak and eight-game home winning streak. They came out of the four-straight four-game series’ with a 10-6 record… Arizona isn’t exactly a group of road warriors as they are 13-33 on the road and the Phillies are 31-18 at home… The Phillies are basically on a roll and can continue with two of their three best pitchers going against such a lowly Diamondbacks team.
Jimmy Rollins was hobbled after fouling a ball off his foot in the Phillies 5-4 win over Colorado. The X-rays for his right foot came back negative and all Rollins has is a bruised foot. We’ll find out tomorrow if he will be in the line up or not.
