Vance Worley has been pitching excellent in AA Reading this year. The Phillies figured they would reward him with a shot in the majors, skipping his AAA stint. The Phillies called-up the righty today. Worley was drafted by the Phillies in the third round of the 2008 Amateur Draft. The 22-year-old his 9-4 with a 3.20 ERA in 19 starts for the R-Phils and has pitched 17 consecutive scoreless innings heading into his call-up.

He’s replacing Andrew Carpenter’s spot on the roster. Carpenter allowed three runs in yesterday’s loss to the Cardinals in three innings after Jamie Moyer left injured. J.A. Happ was yanked from his IronPigs start after three innings as it looks like he could be replacing Moyer. Also the Phillies are looking to acquire a top-of-the-rotation starter within a few days so they could fill the holes in the rotation left with Moyers injury and Kyle Kendrick’s demotion.
