After two disappointing losses to the Pirates the past two days in which the Phillies managed only two runs, the offense exploded tonight to back Kyle Kendrick. The young righty pitched very well and offense came through in a big way as the Phillies won 12-4, snapping the three-game skid to a last-place team.
Jimmy Rollins came through in a much-needed way for himself and the team. He batted 3-for-4 with three runs and three RBIs. He homered in the fourth and also doubled. Shane Victorino also tacked on three runs while Ryan Howard drove in three. Ben Francisco homered in the sixth. Cody Ransom, who was called up today, got the start at third and had himself a two-hit game.
Kendrick pitched a complete game, allowing four runs, three earned, on 10 hits and two walks while striking out four. He threw 114 pitches in the complete game, the first of his career. He even doubled in the seventh. Paul Maholm got shelled in three innings of work, allowing eight runs, seven earned, on 10 hits and two walks while only sitting down one.
