Antonio Bastardo was placed on the 15-day DL with a left elbow ulnar neuritis. Whatever it is, it came after Bastardo allowed two runs in only 2/3 of an innings without giving up a hit against the Yankees on Tuesday. In 16 appearances, his ERA his a walloping 5.11.
In his place, the Phillies called up right-hander Scott Mathieson. Mathieson is 2-2 with 12 saves and a 2.43 ERA over 25 games in AAA Leigh this season. It’s been a while since we’ve seen the 26-year old on the bigs after having Tommy John surgery two years ago. It’ll be interesting if he gets some time tonight.
