Hot (last 7) – Carlos Ruiz: .368 (7-for-19), 1 R, 1 2B, 1 RBI.
Not (last 7) – Chase Utley: .115 (3-for-26), 2 R, 2 K.

Player to Watch – Adrian Gonzalez: Gonzalez abused the Mets last series, going 6-for-12 with a homer and four RBIs. He’s the game-changing bat for the Padres, batting .276 with 10 homers and 32 RBIs. His slugging numbers have been way down for him, just like Ryan Howard’s for the Phillies. Both these guys are the big boppers and they aren’t bopping.

Series Overview: San Diego is riding an emotional high. They seem to be an early pretender as they have Los Angeles on their heals and should be giving the division back to the Dodgers soon. But the Phillies can’t play the Padres like a pretender, especially they way the Phils have been playing… The Phillies fell way out of first place after being swept by the Braves. They have been struggling drastically offensively… Both teams aren’t scoring a lot as they sit 11th and 12th in the NL in runs scored, a number shocking for the Phillies.
