Blanton Out 3-6 Weeks

Todd Zolecki reported on Twitter than Joe Blanton will be out three-to-six weeks with a mild oblique strain he suffered throwing a bull pen session yesterday. Michael Ciccotti, the team physician said it’s less severe than similar injuries but three weeks is the earliest Blanton will be back. He will probably be placed on the 30-day DL (4 1/2 weeks). He has never been on the DL before in his six-year career.

Kyle Kendrick should be in the rotation now and the Phillies will have to replace his bullpen spot. Andrew Carpenter and B.J. Rosenberg are two possibilities to replace Kendrick in the pen.

UPDATE – USA Today reported that Blanton will go on the 15-day DL. Zolecki also feels Carpenter will replace Kendrick in pen.
