Howard’s Homers Lead Phils

Ryan Howard hit a pair of homers and Joe Blanton continued to look good as the Phillies beat Tampa Bay, 4-3. Howard’s homers were solo shots and came in the fourth and sixth inning; both off Matt Garza. Shane Victorino added a solo shot off Garza as well.

Blanton’s strong outing was just another in his quietly good spring. He allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out a pair in 5.1 innings. He’s 2-0 with a 3.86 ERA this spring in 16.1 innings (four starts).

After Tampa tied it up at 2-2 in the top of the sixth, Howard hit his second blast of the day off Garza to give the Phillies a 3-2 lead. Tampa again tied it up in the top of the ninth but Brian Schneider’s walk-off single scored Dewayne Wise to win it for the Phils.
