Kyle Kendrick is a little machine and the Phillies are starting see this. Kendrick pitched four shut out innings where he allowed two hits in the Phillies 4-3 loss to the O’s. Sergio Escalona looked unimpressive again as he gave up three runs in the fifth inning. Andrew Carpenter continued his case for making the bull pen with his three solid innings, allowing a run and striking out five.
In three appearances, Kendrick has thrown nine shut out innings, allowing four this and striking out two. Kendrick is battling with Jamie Moyer for the fifth starting spot and is, in my opinion, the clear favorite to win that job.
Rich Dubee had to say this on Kendrick last week in regards to the starting spot:
“I’d like to see Kyle in the regular games because he’s the guy that’s got to win the job,” Dubee said. “Really, in my mind, he’s got to win the job. And second of all, Jamie is coming off two surgeries, so I’d rather put him in a less intense environment and let him get his feet on the ground. He’ll be back in a regular game soon.”
