Injury Update 3/1/10

UPDATE 3/2/10: Shane Victorino will not play tomorrow against Florida State according to Scott Lauber.

“He’s not quite ready yet,” Charlie Manuel said. “I thought about maybe DHing him tomorrow night, but we’ll hold off until he’s ready to play.”

A few things to note today regarding the health of a few Phillies. First are the health of Brad Lidge and J.C. Romero, two relievers who battled injuries last season en route to poor outings. Both threw off the mound on Sunday, big steps on their road towards recovery by Opening Day.

“Still going slow, but it’s going in the right direction,” Lidge said.

“It went well,” Romero said. “I feel good and I’m very positive about it.”

Once again, more good news on their part. I don’t want these guys being rushed back. They bull pen has depth now to be able to go without Lidge and Romero for a week or two in the regular season. A healthy Lidge is a dominant Lidge and the same goes for J.C.

Now on to some shocking news yet it shouldn’t be alarming to us fans. Shane Victorino is experiencing some shoulder soreness and may be missing the opening game of Spring Training on Wednesday. He didn’t participate in any throwing drills but did take batting practice.

“We didn’t want him throwing in our drills,” Charlie Manuel said. “We want him to take it easy a few days. He’ll be all right.”

Both updates were reported by Todd Zolecki.
