Player: Danys Baez
Number: 55
Position: RP
Bats/Throws: R/R
Acquired: signed a two-year deal worth $5.25 million in early January.
2009 Stats: (w/ Baltimore) 4-6, 59 games, 71.2 IP, 40 K, 4.02 ERA, 1.13 WHIP
Intangibles: He’s the veteran arm the Phillies needed when Scott Eyre retired. The 32-year old came off of his best season since 2005 when he had a 2.86 ERA and 41 saves for Tampa Bay. He has closing experience and will pitch in the back-end of the rotation and could fill in as closer if Brad Lidge is still hurt or struggles in 2010.
Expectations: He has very consistent numbers every year. Like every reliever, he will struggle at times but I can see him posting an ERA around 3.90-4.10 and pitching 60-70 innings.
