Phillies sign Baez

Danys Baez is a physical away from being a Phillie, according to Todd Zolecki. And according to Dave Murphy, it’s a two-year, $5.25 million deal. Like I said in the other post, this is a good move for the Phillies, who were in need of a veteran reliever. He was 4-6 last year with Baltimore. He had a 4.02 ERA in 71.2 IP, striking out 40. He had a WHIP of 1.13, a pretty solid number for a reliever.

In the bottom of Zolecki’s article, he said the Phillies are interested in Miguel Batista, who was 7-4 with Seattle last year. In 56 games, he pitched 71.1 innings with a 4.04 ERA, a whopping 1.65 WHIP, and 52 strike outs. He also said the Phillies have, “made a Minor League offer to left-hander Scott Eyre, who was 5-1 with a 1.62 ERA in 61 appearances since he arrived in a trade with the Chicago Cubs in August 2008.”
