Player: John Mayberry, Jr.
Consistency: He couldn’t establish any kind of consistency at all. He started out batting .320 in his first 28 AB’s (8 hits) but then completely fell apart, striking out at a worse pace than Ryan Howard could ever do in his nightmares. He struck out 23 times in 57 at bats and 23 of his 45 outs were strikeouts.
Regular Season Stats: 39 G, 57 AB, 8 R, 12 H, 3 2B, 0 3B, 4 HR, 8 RBI, 0 SB, 2 BB, 23 K, .211 AVG, .250 OBP, .474 SLG
Post Season Stats: none
Fielding: He didn’t make any errors in his 127 innings in the outfield. In fact he was used as the defensive replacement for Raul Ibanez in his stint in May and June.
Health: He was never hurt
Intangibles: He’s young and has a lot of room for improvement. He showed flashes of brilliance when he first came up but that quickly faded away. He should start the year back in AAA and earn his way back onto the Phillies roster. He needs to cut out the strike outs.
Overall Grade: C. He wasn’t terrible. He’s just not mature enough to see major league pitching.
