So we all thought Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports was nuts when he said that the Phillies would move Cliff Lee if they go after Roy Halladay. He may be right. CSN now reported that the talks have really heated up and that Lee could be traded for prospects which in turn would be sent to Toronto for Halladay. Todd Zolecki also just reported around 3:30 that Halladay is in Philadelphia and a trade could be near.
Two baseball sources told CSNPhilly.com Monday that the team is actively talking about a contract extension with representatives for the 32-year-old righthander. It is likely that the Phillies would want to sign Halladay to an extension before they traded for him. Without an extension, Halladay would be eligible for free agency after the 2010 season.
One of the sources said that Halladay is likely to have a physical exam with Phillies’ medical personal this week.
Halladay has a no-trade clause, but would waive it to come to Philadelphia.
The obvious wish is to keep both pitchers but with Ruben Amaro’s budget, it is unlikely they can keep both.
I will keep you guys updated hopefully. I’m in currently in class and have access to a computer until 4:30.
-@TimothyMalcolm (Phillies Nation) at 3:50 PM: Talk is Cliff Lee to Seattle; Mariners trade 3 prospects to Phillies; we ship those 3 + Michael Taylor to Toronto for Halladay.
